‘Omni Loop’: Ayo Edebiri & Mary-Louise Parker On Their Time Loop Drama, ‘The Bear’ Season 4, A Failed ‘Weeds’ Revival & More [The Discourse Podcast]

In this week’s episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo goes back in time over and over again to discuss the sci-fi indie “Omni Loop.” The film follows a woman who lives the same week over and over in order to try to save her own life. The Bernardo Britto-directed (known for “Los Espookys”) film stars Mary-Louise Parker, Ayo Edebiri, Hannah Pearl Utt, Chris Witaske, and more.

The film’s stars, Mary-Louise Parker and Ayo Edebiri, join the podcast to discuss their roles in the existential time travel film. During the interview, both actresses discuss jumping on board Britto’s feature after having the same reaction to his script and other work.

“I first saw Bernardo’s short film, ‘Hudson Geese,’ and I cried and was amazed,” Parker said. “[He] has a darkness and a— I hate to say— but a sorrowful quality. I think the people that I’m attracted to have that.”

“I read the script, and I burst into tears, and I was so moved by it,” Edebiri shared in solidarity with Parker. “And, you know, I started as a writer and love to read scripts. And some scripts are some of my favorite scripts that have become movies that made me cry or whatever. But it’s not always that way. And I was so kind of shocked, I guess, by that response. I was like, ‘At the very least, I have to meet the man responsible for this and hold him accountable.”

Edebiri is best known for her role as Sydney in the hit series “The Bear,” which saw even more wins during the Emmys this past weekend. While Edebiri won Best Supporting Actress at the previous Emmy ceremony, she left empty-handed this time around. That didn’t change how much she enjoyed the show, especially her co-stars’ winning their awards.

“It was really sweet and really beautiful,” Edebiri said. “We spend all that time together in Chicago in our little bubble, and then you don’t get to see each other, so just being with everyone from the cast was really great. And I was so happy for Liza [Colón-Zayas] and so surprised by her win. And yeah, for everyone.”

“I was supporting last year and lead this year,” Edebiri added. “And that’s the thing where you’re also like, ‘What did these things even mean?’ But then it means that I get to be like, ‘Oh, my God! Hi, Kristen Wiig! And she’s like, hi!’ And that’s a win for me.”

So when does the next season of “The Bear” drop? Shooting is currently on hiatus, but Edebiri believes FX and Hulu, as usual, are still aiming for a similar time frame as the other seasons.

“Yeah, we are going back to shoot next year,” Edebiri shared. “And then I think that means that it’ll be out sometime summery, probably. It feels like that’s how our vibe has historically been. So I think it’ll be soon.”

Mary Louise Parker has had a long and diverse career, but she may still be best known as Nancy Botwin in the hit Showtime series “Weeds.” With Paramount resurrecting former Showtime series like Dexter, should “Weeds” fans have hope for a revival? Apparently, the revival was in the works for quite some time, but not anymore.

“They don’t want to anymore,” Parker said, disappointed. “So they dragged it out for a really long time. And then I guess they decided, ‘no.’ But everybody in that cast, it was really kind of amazing that everybody at the end of eight years loved each other. And that’s kind of amazing. And I would have loved to have had that again. But oh, well.”
